17 Hidden Causes of ADHD Symptoms

Diagnosis of ADHD is on the rise, but there has been little discussion of the potential causes. It seems the world has accepted the concept that ADHD is a permanent condition where pharmaceuticals are the ONLY viable option. Alarmed by the lack of reliable information on the web, I wanted to spread awareness on this highly misunderstood “condition”.

In this article, I will cover the real causes of ADHD, commonly asked questions, natural methods for controlling ADHD symptoms, and a lot more. This will give you insight into the potential origin of this growing epidemic. First of all, let’s discuss the hidden causes of ADHD that no one really talks about. Refer below:

Questions – Potential Causes of ADHD

Is it possible for symptoms of ADHD to disappear?

Studies have shown that ADHD symptoms are a sign of something else going on. For example, these symptoms can be triggered by nutritional deficiencies, dietary irritants, impaired detoxification channels, heavy metal toxicity and more. In my experience, this has been exactly the case. I was diagnosed around age 12, and suffered with ADHD for all of my life until choosing to address these things. Though my symptoms did not magically disappear overnight, they did reduce in correlation to efforts to resolve the issues listed above.

What is the most common cause of symptoms?

In my experience, dietary irritants are the most common link to ADHD symptoms. If diet is not addressed, in most cases, the progress will be limited. If there was a second to diet, it would be key nutritional deficiencies such as intracellular magnesium. Studies have found that dietary changes, magnesium/vitamin d3 supplementation, and more has helped reduce ADHD symptoms. The common amongst all of these is they all have an effect on mast cell response in the brain, and recent science states this may in fact be the most effective “therapeutic target”.

What is the best first step for ADHD patients?

In my experience, the elimination diet / low histamine diet, is the best way to start tackling ADHD. If you can get at least 10 days away from all dietary irritants, than you can finally determine what is causing your hyperactivity. For example, I found out that almonds make me aggressive, unable to sit still, but only after reintroducing them after 21 days on a strict low histamine diet. Without realizing it, you could be cornering yourself with the very foods that could be perpetuating your ADHD symptoms.

Any specific supplements that are most important?

I can only tell you what has worked for me, and what studies show. The most important supplements have been chelated magnesium glycinate, vitamin k2/d3, broken cell wall chlorella, apigenin and bifidobacterium. Of course there are plenty more, but they were major game changers. Keep in mind though, without identifying other dietary and environmental irritants, you will have limited success.

Can environmental irritants lead to ADHD symptoms?

Yes, I have seen this in my daughter countless times. Even scented hand lotion can induce behavioral changes in a person with an overactive enough immune system. It could be chemicals in products, fragrances in the air, animal hair, mold exposure, polyester sensitivities, and plenty more.

Summary – Hidden Causes of ADHD Symptoms

Despite what is propagated by current Western medicine, ADHD symptoms can have the potential to improve through lifestyle and other changes.  The differences in my ADHD now are like night and day due to the changes I have made.. After 25 years of ADHD symptoms, I found that these steps made a lasting difference, when every other form of treatment had produced ONLY temporary benefit. For example, in the past I would have had to take Adderall to write this article, but based on the changes I have made, I was able to focus and write this without any medication.

In summary, ADHD symptoms can greatly improve if you remove all potential irritants, restore key deficiencies, calm down the mast cell/immune response, and then let the body rest and repair. The old way of thinking about ADHD is clearly outdated.  I believe that, in time, it will be replaced by the concepts I just mentioned.
