Real Reason for USA Chronic Illness Epidemic
It’s clear that we are in the middle of a chronic illness epidemic in the USA. The odd thing is, no one really wants to talk about it. Is it because chronic illness is EXTREMELY profitable? Is it because they don’t have a cure any of these diseases? Why is chronic illness worse in the USA than other countries? These are all IMPORTANT questions which I will attempt to answer in GREAT detail in this article. Before doing so, let’s review some statistics which demonstrate the need for RADICAL change:
Alarming Health Statistics
- 57.9% of the calories consumed by Americans are from ultra-processed foods, and highest in poorest communities (1, 2)
- 70% of Americans are currently on a prescription drug of some sort (3)
– NOW 45% of Americans suffer from at least 1 chronic disease, and chronic illness accounts for 75% of healthcare costs annually (4)
– 1 in 59 children are now diagnosed with autism (5), when it was 1 in 5000 in 1975 (6)
– ADHD rates rose from 5.2% to over 11% in the last 20 years, more than doubling (7)
– USA has 4.7% of population in the world, but consumes 80% of opioids (8)
– 16.7% of the population is considered to have a mental illness, men having 21% rates and women at 12% (9)
– In 2015, the number of students ages 3–21 receiving special education services was 6.7 million, or 13 percent of all public school students (10)
Reasons for Chronic Illness Epidemic
- Healthcare providers prescribed 270.2 million antibiotic prescriptions—equivalent to 836 antibiotic prescriptions per 1000 persons (11) – and at least 1 in 3 are not necessary (12); this can lead to increased risk for gut issues
– The food industry has had direct impact on the recommendations for food consumption, USDA sponsored by meat/dairy industry, so won’t allow changes to food pyramid (13)
– USA will not outlaw predatory junk food ads targeted at children, unlike many other countries which restrict these types of advertisements (14)
– 100x more glyphosate-based herbicide (NEUROTOXIN) is now used on our food versus 1974 when first applied; (15) Use of glyphosate in food may be damaging to people, studies have shown it to kill gut bacteria in mice, increase anxiety, etc.(16)
– We create and consume more genetically modified food than any other country, have been eating GMO’s for 20 years, (17) yet there has been NO long term epidemiological study performed to show it is safe (18)
- GMO crops that have a built-in insecticide, short term effects of pesticide exposure have been shown to produce harm (19)
– USA water supply is extremely polluted, heavy metals, pharmaceutical residues can not be scrubbed from the water supply due to insufficient technology (20)
– Meat quality has decreased significantly; 83% increase in meat contamination recalls in the last year (21)
– Air pollution is increasing, and EPA fines for toxic dumping are getting reduced due to political lobbying (22), leading in higher levels of heavy metals being dumped in our environment, chronic mercury exposure can manifest in over 250 physical symptoms in humans (34), and takes months to clear from the system if ever
– Soil quality has been effected by toxic chemicals and pesticides, this has reduced the amount of nutrition/MINERALS in the food we eat, average of 25-35% loss in nutrition over the last 50 years depending on the plant (30)
– USA has more vaccinations on schedule than any other country at this time. by the time a kid turns 18 they have had 57 vaccines if they got the flu shot yearly, 39 if not (23) – vaccines contain metals which some kids are sensitive to based upon genetic make up (29)
– Allowed more food additives than any other country, most which do NOT have to be listed on the ingredients; over 10,000 food additives allowed that have NOT been tested for safety (24)
- USA allowed to use nanoparticle sized food additives in many processed foods; these have been shown to cause IBS like symptoms (25), reactivate latent viruses in the body in studies (26), and effect epithelial cells in the gut (27)
– Modern medicine is tailored to treat acute and localized conditions, while by 2020, it’s estimated 60% of the illness will be chronic NOT acute (28)
Chronic Illness Prevention Strategies
1. Follow plant based/low histamine diet to reduce need for medication, inflammatory symptoms
2. Be very conservative when it comes to putting your children on medication, make sure the issue can actually be solved by the medication, not just masked by it
3, Replace bifidobacterium species RIGHT AFTER you complete a course of antibiotics (31), read my article about finding the right probiotic for further details on supplementing with probiotics
4. Research natural alternatives if you are taking pharmaceuticals; my favorites are colostrum, oil of oregano, turmeric and ginger
5. Avoid ALL processed foods to reduce exposure to food additives, nanoparticles, etc., these foods can also alter taste buds which change food preferences
6. Eat organic as often as possible to reduce exposure to glyphosate and GMO’s
7. Try to supplement healthier sources of protein like beans, nuts, seeds, etc., reduce animal products and eat grass fed organic when possible⠀
8. Replace both essential and trace mineral levels in the body to reduce stress, increase enzymatic function, and decrease heavy metal absorption (fulvic minerals, humic acid)
9. Drink fresh vegetable juices from organically grown foods, and make sure to wash the veggies thoroughly before consuming, this will help restore antioxidant/minerals levels and balance PH
10. If you have a chronic illness and are having a child, be very careful with vaccination; it has been shown that certain children are sensitive to some of the ingredients in vaccines (32), this is thought to be due to genetic predisposition
11. Consider taking supplements that bind to toxins (chlorella, apple pectin, humic acid), to prevent bioaccumulation of these substances
12. Exercise regularly, increase circulation and sweating, this should help to cleanse your organs and cells

The Future of Chronic Illness
The reality is, there are many factors which could be contributing to this chronic illness epidemic. In my opinion, the real cause is simple, profit has been prioritized over the welfare of the people (33). Corporations are able to influence legislature, “buy” scientific studies, cover up contradictory information and treat the citizens as they please. In a world like that, how could the majority of people be free of illness? Simple answer, they can’t.
In summary, the first step to prevention of chronic illness is raising awareness as to the potential causes. After that, you then need to know what lifestyle changes can help you decrease the associated risk. In this article, I have done my best to explain both, while proving mountains of scientific evidence.
