Bovine Colostrum Backed by Scientific Studies
I am a firm believer in the healing power of bovine colostrum. Though I did make other changes, raw colostrum was the main reason I beat autoimmune disease.
It’s easy to say a supplement works for ME, but the real question is, how does it perform in scientific trials? With this in mind, I created a list of some of the benefits of colostrum which are backed by science. This will give you a clearer idea of why I call colostrum “my miracle milk“!
Benefits of Bovine Colostrum
Colostrum Increases Bone-Free Lean Body Mass
In a study comparing the use of colostrum to whey protein in those exercising to exhaustion, colostrum increased lean body mass while whey only increased weight (1). This shows colostrum influences lean body mass in both men and women. In addition, studies have shown an increase in strength and endurance in those taking colostrum versus the placebo.(9)
Bovine IgG Proven to Boost Immune System in Humans
It is well known that bovine IgG can bind to potential pathogens in humans, reducing infection and improving overall health (2). Also, IgG can be critical in developing the immune system in children who were formula fed.
Oral Supplementation with Bovine Colostrum Helps Leaky Gut
Colostrum contains epithelial growth factor (EGF) and transforming growth factor (TGF), which signal the intestinal lining to repair itself. This reduces intestinal permeability (3), which is critical for those who are dealing with chronic illness. As far as I know, there is no other substance that contains both EGF and TGF.
Colostrum Increases Healing Hormones like HGH, IGF-1, etc.
After undergoing extensive strength training, It appears that bovine colostrum may increase serum IGF-I concentration (4, 5). In addition, it increases healing peptides which can act similarly to hormones. There is no other natural substance which contains this many peptides, growth factors and hormone precursors.
Colostrum Contains Antibodies which Combat Infection
The main functions of colostrum are to fight bacterial infection (10), provide essential nutritional components for optimal immune function, strengthen the natural defense system, modulate immune response (8), balance intestinal microbiota and enhance the growth and repair of several tissue. (6) All of these positively influence gut health in humans.
Bovine Colostrum Reduces Fatigue in those with Serious Illness
In a recent study, 81% of AIDS patients noticed significant reduction in fatigue after administering colostrum (7). There are a long list of reasons colostrum can help with fatigue in those suffering from chronic illnesses, but here’s just a few: colostrum is a predigested protein that is abundant in amino acids, peptides, and growth factors; it encourages the body’s intestinal lining to repair itself; it combats both intestinal infection and blood borne illnesses; it calms down mast cells, it has the perfect balance of fats, stabilizes blood sugar, etc.
Frequent Questions about Colostrum
How can I find raw colostrum?
Visiit realmilk.com and check their state by state list of all raw milk farmers. You then proceed to create a “pitch” that you will repeat to every farmer. This needs to sound sincere, desperate and non-threatening. Keep in mind, they are not supposed to be distributing raw colostrum. If they say they can’t help, ask for the numbers of any farmers they know with cows. Do not take no for an answer! Keep networking until you find the connect, and look in neighboring states as well. For more info, read this article about how to find raw colostrum.
How much colostrum should I drink per day?
If you have colostrum that came from the “first milking”, it’s usually thick. If this is the case, you want to consume 16-24 oz per day, 6 days on and 1 off. In my experience, colostrum benefits are greatest when taken on an empty stomach, a couple ounces at a time, several times a day. This allows you to really absorb the nutrition and retain the immune boost present in this unique substance.
What does raw bovine colostrum taste like?
It does not taste bad at all. In fact, it just tastes like cream for coffee. I actually like to drink my colostrum slow so I can savor the taste and texture of the milk.
How do I determine colostrum quality?
Almost all colostrum you will be purchasing will be frozen. When raw colostrum freezes, it separates into cream and whey. This allows you to evaluate quality rather easily. The cream will sit on top, and the milk colostrum should appear to consist of at least 40% cream. With colostrum, the more cream, the more potent it is. Take a look at the pic below to see what high quality “first milking” colostrum looks like. Notice how the golden color fades in intensity from top to bottom, and the top half of each container is more golden.
Is it safe to drink raw colostrum?
There is chance for contamination with every raw food. With that being said, I have never gotten sick from drinking raw colostrum and I’ve consumed thousands of gallons. None the less, you can usually tell if everything is ok by the taste. If there is ANY saltiness to the taste, it is bad. This means the cow had mastitis and the milk is not to be drank. If it tastes like cream, from my experience, you are good to go!
Summary of Colostrum Research
As you can see, colostrum can “walk the walk, and talk the talk”. Unlike most supplements on the market, countless scientific studies have demonstrated it’s potential. With all this evidence growing, the real question now is, how can this miracle milk change the world?
I personally have consumed more bovine colostrum than any human on earth, I guarantee that! For this reason and others, I have chosen to make it my mission in life to promote the true power of this substance. As you have seen this article, and as I have personally experienced, this may be god’s greatest give to medicine.
Still not a believer? Take a look at this pic of me BEFORE and AFTER colostrum. Now you can see why I call it “my miracle milk”!
