EMF Exposure Triggers Mast Cell Activation
In the modern world, we are surrounded by countless things that can cause mast cell activation. Though many people neglect it, EMF exposure can be a big trigger for certain people. Since I have experienced this and witnessed my daughter and clients go through it, I wanted to address EMF sensitivity in detail.
In this article, I will discuss how EMF exposure affects the human body, how it can trigger mast cells, and how mold exposure can increase sensitivity to EMF. Lastly, I will address common questions about EMF exposure and mast cell activation. Scroll down to get started!
How EMF Causes Mast Cell Activation
Promotes Calcium Influx
EMF exposure has been shown to increase intracellular calcium by affecting the voltage-gated ion channels on the cell membrane. This causes the mast cell to increase the release of inflammatory cytokines and other chemicals like histamine. When people experience EMF sensitivity, this is what’s happening beneath the surface. Learn more about the effects of EMF on calcium and mast cells via the study link.
Boosts Oxidative Stress
Exposure to EMF increases the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Over time, this can cause cellular damage because of the oxidative stress. In addition, this excessive oxidation can trigger the mast cells to secrete inflammatory molecules. This then translates into symptoms you may not associate with EMF exposure. For people with mast cell activation, this is a big deal! The reason is, their cells are already under a large amount of oxidative stress. To learn more, review the study via the link provided.
Increases BBB Permeability
Studies have shown that EMF exposure activates mast cells in the brain, which increases the permeability of the blood-brain barrier. This allows toxins and pathogenic organisms to cross the barrier, triggering the mast cells even further. If you have mast cell activation, this is the last thing you want. Mast Cell Sensitivity to EMF Exposure
To summarize, mast cells are sensitive to EMF exposure because it has such a profound effect on calcium influx. In addition, oxidative stress puts them in a heightened state of reactivity. When you combine the two, you have both the fuel and the fire. This causes the mast cells to react even quicker to anything they perceive as threatening. Also, it makes the mast cells much less selective when identifying potential threats. This is why EMF exposure can be a hidden problem that is tough to recognize. It amplifies your symptoms indirectly by aggravating your immune system, making it more reactive to everything else.
EMF Hypersensitivity is Very Real
For most people, it’s hard to believe that EMF hypersensitivity is a real thing. This is because they are not aware of the effects that EMF exposure is having on them. Since their immune system is not in a panicked state of fight or flight, it doesn’t respond to lower-grade triggers like EMF. For people with mast cell activation or other chronic illnesses, it’s a different story.
After experiencing EMF sensitivity myself, seeing it in my daughter, and plenty of clients, I know it’s real! The main factor that determines your level of reactivity to EMF is how triggered your immune system already is. For example, when people are exposed to black mold toxins for an extended period, EMF hypersensitivity is likely. This is because the immune system has become extremely dysfunctional due to the mold toxins. If you are someone with a chronic health issue, you should be careful with EMF exposure. Even if you’re not aware of what it’s doing, trust me, it’s affecting your immune system.
Mold Exposure Triggers EMF Sensitivity
The most common reason for mast cell dysfunction is exposure to mold toxins. Mycotoxins like trichothecenes can cause the immune system to start attacking body tissue. When this starts to happen, all hell can break loose! Whether it’s a fragrance in the air, food you’re consuming, or electromagnetic fields, your immune system will perceive everything as a threat!
In my experience, mold is always involved when someone can notice EMF sensitivity. I have never seen a case where someone has significant reactions to EMF but has no history of exposure to toxic mold. In most cases, black mold is present in the home, which is driving the EMF sensitivity. If you eliminate exposure and remove the mycotoxins from the body, the EMF sensitivity should become much less noticeable. This is because the mast cells are much calmer after no longer dealing with mycotoxins. Learn more about how mold mycotoxins cause mast cell activation using the link provided.
FAQ- EMF Exposure and Mast Cell Activation
Is EMF hypersensitivity becoming common?
EMF hypersensitivity is becoming more and more common. Not only are we using stronger frequencies, but we have more devices in our houses than ever. Also, the damage from EMF exposure is cumulative because, unfortunately, there is nowhere to escape it. This can lead to EMF hypersensitivity if the person is already compromised with a condition like mast cell activation and chronic inflammatory response syndrome. If you are noticing a sensitivity to EMF, then perform an ERMI mold test in your home and make changes to reduce exposure. The reality is, you can’t escape EMF completely, but you can make the right decisions to reduce your risk.
Have you experienced electrohypersensitivity?
Yes, I experienced EMF hypersensitivity while I was being exposed to black mold and for several months afterward. In addition, I have also seen my daughter experience negative effects from EMF exposure. The symptoms that manifest will depend on the person. For example, I experienced pain and swelling of the hand and arm. My daughter experienced flushing of the face, hyperactivity, dilated pupils, and worsening of attention. Keep in mind, I could only see these things once I started looking for them on a consistent basis. If you don’t believe what I’m saying, you probably haven’t looked closely enough.
How can I reduce EMF exposure?
There are a few different ways you can reduce your exposure to EMF. First, you can turn off your devices and routers when not needed. If it’s a cell phone, it can be put in airplane mode to reduce EMF and radiation exposure. Also, you can limit the use of your household products like microwaves. Next, you can use EMF shielding products like protective cases, EMF canopies, etc. Lastly, you can try to keep your distance from anything emitting EMF. Remember, the further you are away from it, the less it can affect you.
Is mold always an issue when EMF sensitivity?
No, but in most cases, if people have EMF hypersensitivity, there has been a history of mold exposure. I have experienced this myself, seen it in my daughter, and seen it in plenty of clients. For example, when I was living in a house that had black mold, I became reactive to my phone and computer. For the first time in my life, I would get shooting pain up my arm and swelling of my hand.
Another example is, my daughter’s face would flush red, her pupils dilated, and her behavior changed after 45 minutes of using my phone/ tablet. These reactions became barely noticeable when we finally found a place without mold. Though we know that EMF still affects us, it’s much harder to tell without mold involved.
Are there any studies to support this information?
Yes, emerging research shows that EMF exposure can cause oxidative stress in the body, which puts stress on mast cells. Another study showed that EMF exposure can lead to an influx of calcium into the cells, which causes mast cell degranulation. Another study showed that EMF exposure increased the production of inflammatory cytokines, which aggravates mast cells. Click on the link provided to review the studies. If you want more information than this, you can reference the other studies I linked earlier in the article.
Conclusion- EMF Exposure Causes Mast Cell Activation
For years, I discredited the concept of EMF exposure. During that time, I failed to recognize that it could harm me and my family. My viewpoint changed once I lived in a house with black mold for a few years. Over time, I became more sensitive to EMF exposures. This led me to research the effects of EMF exposure on humans. After experiencing EMF sensitivity myself, seeing it in others, and then validating it with scientific research, it’s hard for me to doubt it. For this reason, I advise clients to mitigate exposure in any way possible.
If you have mast cell activation, it is important to limit your EMF exposure whenever you can. In addition, if you are experiencing symptoms after being exposed to EMFs, you should test your house for mold and yourself for mycotoxins. This is often the missing link for those with EMF hypersensitivity.
